Reports and check-ins

Your employee posts two kinds of report in its private channel: a short watch report while it's new, and a regular vitals report about how your server is doing. You can change how often either one arrives just by asking.

Numbers you can trust

Every figure in a report is counted from your server's records, never estimated. Your employee adds a short comment in its own voice.

Reports never @mention anyone. They sit in the private channel for you to read when you like.

The watch report

Good moderation is mostly invisible: on a normal day nothing gets flagged. The watch report shows you the work anyway. It runs through the trial, then stops. The vitals report takes over from there.

The first one arrives about a day after you hire it, even if nothing has happened, so you can see it's on the job. The first one also tells you that you can ask for fewer reports or none at all.

Each watch report covers the time since the last one:

  • How many messages it watched.
  • How many it flagged.
  • How many moderation actions your staff took, if any. Dismissals and /warn or /note entries count too.
  • How many new members it welcomed, if any (see Welcoming new members).
  • A few of the flags, with the time (shown in your own time zone), the channel and a short reason. If there were more, it says how many and points you to the flag cards.

Quiet days are combined

On the daily setting, a day with flags gets its own report. Quiet days are rolled into a single report that says how many days it covers. You still see that it's watching, without a string of identical "all quiet" posts.

The watch report can be set to daily (the default), every other day, weekly, or off.

The vitals report

The vitals report is the standing check-in on how your server is doing. By default it arrives weekly, with the first one a week after you hire your employee. It keeps going after the trial for as long as your employee is working for you.

Each report covers the last week (or two weeks, or month, depending on the setting), compared with the period of the same length before it:

  • Messages watched, with the change from the period before.
  • Flags raised, with the change.
  • How many moderation actions your staff took, including dismissals and /warn or /note entries. This one has no comparison.
  • New members greeted, when there were any in this period or the one before.
  • Your member count and how much it changed. Tracking begins when your employee is hired; until there's enough history, the report says tracking is starting instead of guessing a trend.
  • The hour your server is usually busiest, shown in your own time zone.

Vitals report options

The vitals report can be set to:

  • Weekly (the default), covering the last 7 days.
  • Every two weeks, covering the last 14 days.
  • Monthly, covering the last 30 days.
  • Off.

Changing your reports

There's no settings page for this. Just tell your employee in its private channel, in plain words. For example: "make the watch report weekly", "every couple of days is enough", "monthly is fine for the vitals", "stop the reports" or "turn them back on".

It replies with a card showing the schedule you'd end up with for both reports, with Confirm and Cancel buttons. Nothing changes until you click Confirm. After that, the next report follows the new schedule. You can change it again whenever you like. More on what else you can ask for in Talking to your employee.

Once the watch report has ended, changing its schedule has no effect.

When reports stop

If you don't hire your employee after the trial, or a paid subscription ends, it goes off the clock and all reports stop. They pick up again when you bring it back. See The trial, hiring and billing.

Separately from these reports, your employee posts one review at the end of its 14-day trial with a report card of its first two weeks. That's covered in the same article.
